Roa, an artist who gives a voice to animals

Roa is a muralist from Ghent, Belgium whose work has often been recorded and photographed, but people don’t know him very well.

When he was young he wanted to be an archeologist and he collected skulls of birds and rodents to draw at home.

Roa is primarily known for this obsession for rodents; he combines life, death and life after the death in his murals. He represents his animals with skeleton and internal organs for making them more realistic.

The artist says that “Organs are the vital substances of our body and they represent a lot of the symbolism which I like”.

He has created hundreds of murals through the world (some cities where his works can be found is London, Berlin, Warsaw, Moscow, Paris, New York, Los Angeles…) and he uses native animals based on the location where he paints.

His favorites methods are spray paint and acrylic one and in his works predominate grey tones for animals and red for them wounds.

His died animal paintings seem real. Roa’s anonymity has kept his works and his spirit free.
